Bakhtiyor Saidov participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 23 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov participated in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Uzbekistan intends to chair the Non-Aligned Movement from 2027 to 2029, the foreign minister announced following the ministerial meeting held in New York on Monday.

The Non-Aligned Movement, established in 1961, brings together 120 countries and is based on the principles of non-involvement in military blocs. Uzbekistan joined the movement in September 1992. Since 2019, the presidency has belonged to Azerbaijan, and this year it has transitioned to Uganda, which will lead the movement until 2026.

“Today, we are facing a situation characterized by complex global processes and dynamic changes. It is a great honor for us to announce a historic milestone — Uzbekistan’s plans to host the 20th summit and to chair the movement from 2027 to 2029, focusing on key priorities such as energy security, sustainable development, and strengthening global trade systems,” noted the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan.

He also emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to strengthening peace, addressing climate change issues, and supporting the new generation through education. “Together, we can tackle the challenges of our time and amplify the voice of the Global South,” the minister added.

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, participated in the summit of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku in March 2023.
