Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Austria and France have advanced to the Euro 2024 playoffs, securing first and second places in Group D.
Austria’s national team claimed a 3-2 win over the Netherlands.
In the sixth minute of the match, Dutch forward Donyell Malen scored an own goal, putting Austria ahead. In the 47th minute, Dutch forward Cody Gakpo equalized the score.
In the 59th minute, Austrian midfielder Romano Schmid scored Austria’s second goal. In the 75th minute, Dutch forward Memphis Depay equalized the score again. However, just five minutes later, Austrian forward Marcel Sabitzer responded with a goal.
France and Poland shared spoils, playing a 1-1 draw.
In the 56th minute, French forward Kylian Mbappe successfully converted a penalty. In the 78th minute, Polish forward Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty, but the referee ordered a retake. On his second attempt in the 79th minute, Lewandowski equalized the score.
As a result, Austria secured first place in Group D with 6 points, while France took second place with 5 points. The Netherlands finished third with 4 points and still have a chance to advance to the playoffs. Poland came in last with 1 point.
