A two-day Team Workshop, attended by team managers, officials and doctors from the participating countries, came to an end in the Malaysian capital city on Wednesday.

Speaking while closing the workshop, Dato’ Alex said: "Hosts Australia have shown us their preparations for the competition. They have great facilities and the technical know-how to organise the tournament.

"They are no strangers to holding world-class events having hosted the 2000 Olympics on their soil. I’m sure Australia will deliver the best AFC Asian Cup ever.

"Some of the teams will be bringing their own fans to give support during their matches. You are more than welcome to do so and the AFC will be there to assist you.

"It will be a dream tournament for all the 16 participating nations."

Dato’ Alex also expressed his confidence in the mettle of each and every team taking part in the competition, while urging them to prepare well and give their utmost at the tournament.

Dato’ Alex, who has been involved in five AFC Asian Cups, also recalled the history of the prestigious tournament from its inception in 1956 when Hong Kong were the hosting nation.

"Since its inception in 1956 in Hong Kong, and through the many years that have followed, the AFC Asian Cup has progressed well to become a great tournament," he said.

"Many of us were not born when the AFC Asian Cup started in 1956, but I can assure you that the tournament has a rich tradition and has become a great heritage in the many countries who have hosted it."
