ATOMEXPO 2024 becomes a record in terms of the number of participating countries and signed agreements

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 March 2024, the two-day International Forum ATOMEXPO-2024 completed its work at the Sirius University of Science and Technology in Sochi. This event became one of the largest in the global nuclear industry.

The area of the exhibition part of the forum exceeded 25.5 thousand square meters, and the number of participating companies exceeded 200. The forum brought together about 4,500 participants from 75 countries, which was a record for the number of participants compared to previous years.

The forum was attended by representatives of business, government agencies and international organizations. Among the high-profile guests were the head of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on digital and technological development, energy ministers from various countries, as well as representatives of large companies.

The forum was marked by a significant increase in the number of agreements concluded compared to the previous year. More than 80 agreements were signed, almost double the number previously. This indicates a serious desire for cooperation with Russia on the part of various countries of the world.

Among the new partners of the Rosatom State Corporation, Burkina Faso stands out, with which a roadmap has been developed to expand cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. This document provides steps to develop human resources and nuclear infrastructure in Burkina Faso, and also aims to create a positive public opinion about nuclear energy.

On 25 March 2024, at the International Forum ATOMEXPO-2024, a Comprehensive Program of Russian-Belarusian cooperation in the field of nuclear non-energy and non-nuclear projects was signed. This program defines the main tasks of cooperation for the coming years, including the implementation of joint investment projects and the introduction of Industry 4.0 technologies in the Belarusian energy and industry. Maximum use of projects and programs of the Union State is expected in the implementation of this program.

In addition, the forum concluded a large number of agreements in the field of non-nuclear technologies, such as hydro and wind energy, energy storage systems and educational programs. These agreements confirm the relevance of developing new business areas, including not only nuclear energy, but also alternative energy sources.

One of the important events at the forum was the test launch ceremony for the production of innovative nuclear fuel for the fourth generation BREST-OD-300 reactor. This event took place via teleconference and was marked by the presence of high-ranking representatives, including the Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, the Director General of the IAEA, the President of the World Nuclear Association and others.

At the plenary session of the forum, the prospects for the transition to two-component nuclear energy, the development of fourth-generation technologies and the reduction of carbon emissions were discussed. New contours for the development of nuclear energy in Russia were also outlined, including cooperation with the regions to create electricity generation facilities based on floating power units.

The ATOMEXPO 2024 forum confirmed its role as an important platform for discussing strategic directions for the development of the nuclear industry and strengthening international cooperation in this area.

Demonstrating Rosatom’s commitment to the climate agenda at the XIII International Forum “ATOMEXPO-2024” by offsetting its carbon footprint using special certificates is a significant innovation. This forum was the first completely carbon-free, where all energy sources are green. The forum’s motto was “Clean Energy. Creating the Future Together,” highlighting the importance of working together to create a clean and green energy future.

General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev emphasized that the key words are “future” and “together,” which emphasizes the need for joint efforts regardless of state borders to create a sustainable energy landscape.
