Sports 07/11/2007 Atoev of Uzbekistan secures gold at AIBA boxing contest in US
Uzbekistan national boxing team finished 7th at the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) World Boxing Championship in Chicago, USA, collecting one gold medal thanks to 81 kg light heavyweight Abbos Atoev’s 20:17 win over Russian Artur Beterbiev in the finals.

Along with securing his place in the final competition of 2008 Beijing Olympics, Atoev become the next 81 kg light heavyweight AIBA World Champion winning his all five games during the tournament, Jahon reports.

First came Konstantin Bejenaru from Romania, who failed to continue the fight after round 3 due to referee decision to stop the contest, as Uzbek boxer was already outscoring his opponent, leaving him no chance to recover. Atoev’s next opponent - Mamadou Diambang from France also left the ring immediately after the start of the contest being unable to continue because of his injury.

On his way to the finals Atoev also defeated Mario Saviola from Croatia in the quarterfinal stage (17:6) and Erkebuyan Shinaliev from Kazakhstan (17:8). In his final contest Atoev defeated Russian Artur Beterbiev in four rounds (20:17).
