Economy 16/06/2008 Arbitration Development Center experts visit London to learn foreign experience
During the visit, which took place on 4-7 June, the delegation of the Arbitration Development Center met representatives of the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation, School of International Arbitration, Centre for Commercial Law Studies Queen Mary of the University of London, Dispute Resolutions Services, London Chamber of Commerce, London Court of International Arbitration, Center for Effective Dispute Resolution and Global Arbitration Review magazine. The visit helped the specialists from Uzbekistan to acquaint with their activities and learn their best practices. The hosts also gave their recommendations on development of the arbitration and mediation in Uzbekistan. It is expected that the new knowledge and skills will be applied within the implementation of various activities of the Arbitration Development Center.

At the meetings, the delegation of Uzbekistan also presented the activities of the Arbitration Development Center and Arbitration Court under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

Artem Klimenko, deputy chairperson of the arbitration court under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and member of the delegation, said: "The visit was very useful and issues, which we studied in UK, will be used for development of the alternative ways on dispute resolution in Uzbekistan. In particular, the simplified procedures on dispute resolutions in arbitration were interesting for the arbitration court of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. Our staff already has started to develop and introduce similar procedures."

The visit was organized by the joint project of UNDP and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan "Supporting to the development of arbitration courts and other alternative methods of dispute settlement in the Republic of Uzbekistan". The project focuses on development of the arbitration courts and other alternative ways of dispute resolution through creation of Arbitration Development Center, which was officially opened in early May 2008.
