Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Entrepreneurs and arbitrators gathered to discuss the role of arbitration courts in dispute settlement at the UNDP-supported seminars in the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region on 19-20 March.

The seminars titled "Arbitration Courts in Uzbekistan: practical aspects of activity and development perspectives of arbitration proceeding among entrepreneurs" was held in Nukus and Urgench, which was part of the series planned to be held in all regions of Uzbekistan within the frameworks of awareness-raising campaign.

Within the next three months, similar seminars are also to be held in Jizzakh, Gulistan, Qarshi, Termez, Samarqand, Namangan, and the Tashkent region.

Over 40 participants, including entrepreneurs and representatives of the Association of farmers and regional administration of justice discussed possible use of the arbitration system in future claims as well as current trends in arbitration, including procedures of the arbitration courts and selection of arbitrators, advantages and disadvantages of arbitration system. They exchanged recommendations on arbitration clauses and ways of dispute settlement among entrepreneurs. Several business meetings with regional large-scale enterprises and farmers were also held in order to strengthen the role of arbitration courts in commercials dispute settlements.

Specialists of the Arbitration Development Center conducted trainings. The Center worked out the new methodology of arbitrators’ attestation and a unified system of document circulation in all regional arbitration courts.

“Faith in arbitration courts as a non-governmental institute of dispute settlement has been growing. Entrepreneurs are interested in a fast dispute settlement through attracting qualified arbitrators from the list of arbitrators of arbitration courts under CCI”, says the director of the Arbitration Development Center, Shavkat Juraboev.

The seminars were part of the project "Support to the development of arbitration courts and other alternative methods of dispute settlement in the Republic of Uzbekistan" implemented by UNDP and CCI Uzbekistan.
