Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The unemployment rate among the working-age population in Uzbekistan has decreased by 1 percentage point since the beginning of the year, now standing at 5.8%. This information was reported by the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction.
As of 1 July 2024, Uzbekistan’s population is approximately 37.2 million, with 15,089,000 (41%) classified as economically active, meaning they are ready for employment.
According to the ministry, of this number, 14.21 million (94%) are employed in various sectors of the economy.
Specifically, 6.8 million people (48%) are employed in the official sector, while 5.5 million (38.8%) work in the informal sector.
The number of citizens working abroad is 1.9 million (13.6%).
The ministry noted that currently, 876,000 people are in need of employment, down from 1.02 million at the beginning of the year. The unemployment rate among the working-age population has decreased by 1 percentage point, now at 5.8%, compared to 6.8% at the start of the year, according to the ministry.
