An international webinar “Uzbekistan in Global Capital Markets-Local currency and ESG considerations” takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 April 2021, Deputy Minister of Finance Odilbek Isakov took part in a webinar organized by the London Stock Exchange Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on the topic “Uzbekistan in Global Capital Markets-Local currency and ESG considerations”.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republican Stock Exchange, JSC “National Bank”, JSCB “Uzpromstroybank” and commercial banks ATIB “Ipoteka-Bank”, along with the managing director of the London Stock Exchange Group Julia Hoggett and Vice-President and Treasurer of the International Finance Corporation Georgina Baker and John Gandolfo.

During the webinar, the following topics were presented: 

* macroeconomic indicators in 2020 and 2021 forecast;

* changes in fiscal policy, dynamics of public debt and its efficient management;

* Uzbekistan's participation in international capital markets;

* measures to attract financial resources from international financial markets in the local  currency;

* development projects which are to be financed from the proceeds of the issuance of Eurobonds in local currency will contribute to the achievements of SDG goals of the Republic;

* reforms aimed at developing the local capital market;

* local capital market development program for 2021-2023.

It was also noted during the teleconference that the funds received from Eurobonds placed in the local  currency will be used to finance a number of projects to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of Uzbekistan, the process of their implementation will be monitored jointly with international experts and in the future, it is planned to widely introduce this practice in other investment projects.

It should be noted that informing at this event about the importance of Uzbekistan's participation in international capital markets and the reforms implemented in the local capital market in the future will contribute to further strengthening relations with international investors and banks, international financial organizations.
