American Dance Company Director Shares Best Practices with Uzbek Students and Performers
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- David Dorfman, Founding Artistic Director of the David Dorfman Dance Company, and Michael Blanco, Project Director of DanceMotion USA, visited Uzbekistan from 2 to 6 February to share ideas and best practices in dance, as well as to encourage and facilitate active conversation around the themes and issues explored through performance.

Dorfman held master classes and collaborative creative sessions at the Tashkent State Higher School of National Dance and Choreography and the Pop & Circus College in Tashkent. In addition, they participated in the regular English Conversation Club at the U.S. Embassy and met with various Uzbek dance groups in the capital city.

Award-winning Artistic Director David Dorfman is also the Dance Department Chair at Connecticut College in the U.S, where he has been a professor since 2004. Since its founding in 1985, David Dorfman Dance has performed extensively throughout North and South America, Great Britain, Europe, and most recently in St. Petersburg and Krasnoyarsk in Russia, and Bytom and Krakow in Poland. The company has been honored with eight New York Dance and Performance ("Bessie") Awards, and has been the company-in-residence at Connecticut College since 2007.

DanceMotion USA is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, produced by the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) to showcase the finest contemporary American dance abroad. It also promotes global dialogue about the performing arts between arts administrators and technical theater professionals.
