American actress Jodie Foster was awarded the honorary prize of the 74th Cannes Film Festival

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Hollywood actress and director Jodie Foster was awarded the Palme d’Or honor at the 74th Cannes Film Festival that opened on Tuesday.

The Foster Award, which was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the film festival, was presented by the Spanish director and producer Pedro Almodovar.

“It is with great love that I accept this great honor,” said Foster, who is fluent in French, after receiving the award.

Over the years, the Golden Palm was awarded to Jeanne Moreau, Jane Fonda, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Bernardo Bertolucci, Alain Delon and others.

Foster’s film Taxi Driver, directed by Martin Scorsese, received the Palme d’Or 45 years ago, in 1976.

Following the Foster award, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho took the stage, whose film "Parasites" received the main award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

Bong Joon Ho, Foster, Almodovar and American director, producer, screenwriter and actor Spike Lee, who will lead the jury this year, launched the festival in four languages: Korean, French, Spanish and English.

The opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival took place on the French Riviera. One of the most famous international film shows will run until 17 July. Within 12 days, the jury will evaluate 24 paintings that were included in the main competition program. Among them are films by Leos Carax, François Ozon, Paul Verhoeven, Wes Anderson, Asghar Farhadi. Russia in the competition program is represented by Kirill Serebrennikov’s film "The Petrovs in the Flu".
