Amendments are being made to the Law “On Internal Affairs Bodies”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the next plenary meeting, senators considered the Law “On introducing additions and changes to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at improving the legal framework for combating crime.”

It was noted that the republic has created a comprehensive legal system to protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens, ensure the security of individuals, society and the state, prevent offenses and combat crime.

The reforms being carried out in the country to ensure the rule of law pose new tasks for law enforcement agencies and are aimed at creating a solid legal basis for them to make prompt and effective decisions to carry out their tasks.

The law introduces additions and amendments to the Law “On Operational Investigative Activities”, providing for clarification of the procedure for carrying out such operational investigative activities as making inquiries, operational implementation, undercover operations, as well as strengthening the legal framework for combating crime in the field of information technology, the definition the possibility of conducting operational investigative activities using information and communication technologies, including in cyberspace and (or) using its capabilities.

At the same time, an amendment is being made to the Law “On Internal Affairs Bodies” to clarify the rights of internal affairs bodies to freely use the capabilities of the media in order to establish the circumstances of crimes, identify and search for persons who have committed crimes, as well as search for persons evading serving punishment or missing persons.

In addition, an addition is being made to the Law “On the Procedure for Serving Administrative Arrest”, establishing the possibility of carrying out operational investigative activities in a special institution intended for the reception and detention of persons subject to administrative arrest.

The senators emphasized that the Law serves to more reliably ensure the protection of public order and the safety of citizens, as well as to increase the effectiveness of measures to prevent offenses and combat crime.
