Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Timur Rakhmanov met with Speaker of the Seimas of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa.

The prospects for strengthening contacts and cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries were discussed at the meeting, Dunyo news agency reports.

During the conversation, there was a thorough exchange of views on strengthening the role of parliament in the processes of promoting government reforms. Daiga Mieriņa expressed Latvia’s readiness to share its experience of reforms, which could be useful to Uzbekistan. She outlined priority areas of cooperation, such as border management, civil service development, introduction of green technologies and promoting the export potential of the agricultural sector.

The speaker also noted Uzbekistan as one of Latvia’s largest economic partners in Central Asia.

The Latvian politician emphasized the sequence of transformations being carried out in Uzbekistan in the political, legal, socio-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. In her opinion, it is noteworthy that the reforms are aimed at improving the welfare and well-being of the population.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to intensify cooperation within the Friendship Groups in the parliaments of the two countries and to work out a number of bilateral visits and events.
