Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 6 October 2024, Romania and Uzbekistan celebrate the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
"Accept my heartfelt congratulations on this significant date! I wish prosperity, fruitful development, and mutually beneficial relations between our countries!" said Daniel Cristian Chobanu, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to Uzbekistan.
Strengthening interaction with Uzbekistan in political, diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural, and educational fields is a priority for Romania in Central Asia. The meeting between the foreign ministers of Romania and Uzbekistan on 23 October 2023, opened new opportunities for our cooperation.
This year, as in previous years, we have achieved very good results in various sectors. Notably, there were visits to Romania by delegations from the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (on 29 January - 2 February 2024), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan (on 16 April 2024), and the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (on 22-26 April 2024).
The meeting of the Joint Romanian-Uzbek Commission on Road Transport, held on 27-28 March 2024, in Bucharest, facilitated the creation of additional favorable conditions in the transport sector. Successful visits to Uzbekistan included those by Mihai Precup, head of the Agency for Monitoring and Evaluation of State Enterprises in Romania (on 4-6 June 2024), and Carmen Moraru, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of Romania (on 22-28 September 2024).
An important aspect of our parliamentary cooperation was the visit to Romania by a delegation from the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Ravshanbek Alimov, Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism, to participate in the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (Bucharest, on 29 June – 3 July 2024). I am confident that after the parliamentary elections this year in Uzbekistan and Romania, our cooperation will continue to strengthen.
In the cultural sphere, there have been numerous joint achievements. In the past two years, Romania has participated in the International Jazz Festival organized in Tashkent by the Uzbekistan Arts and Culture Development Fund under the auspices of UNESCO. This year, two notable events took place in the capital of Uzbekistan: an exhibition of painting and sculpture dedicated to the personality and work of the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși (February 2024) and a photo exhibition about the remarkable Romanian composer George Enescu (March 2024).
Romania made its debut at the International Folklore Festival "Boysun Bahori" with a splendid performance by the artistic ensemble "Doina Gorjului" from Târgu Jiu. In March 2024, the screening of the historical documentary film "Maria - Heart of Romania," which told the unique story of Queen Marie of Romania (1875-1938) during the challenging times of World War I, received a wide response in Tashkent.
"Romania continues to support the strengthening of partnerships between the European Union and Uzbekistan. Our country is a consistent and steadfast advocate for close interaction. I look to the future with great optimism. I express my sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to the Uzbek side for our fruitful cooperation!" emphasized Daniel Cristian Chobanu
