Almost 3,000 micro-hydroelectric power stations to be built in Uzbekistan by 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to develop a network of micro-hydroelectric power stations (micro-HPPs).
The President of Uzbekistan has signed a decree titled "On Additional Measures for the Development of the Micro-Hydroelectric Power Station Network in the Territories of the Republic."
According to the document, between 2025 and 2026, it is planned to build 2,983 micro-HPPs across the country's regions with a total capacity of 164 MW. These stations are expected to generate 500 million kWh of environmentally clean electricity annually, which will provide power to 280,000 people.
During the construction phase, 1,200 temporary jobs will be created, and once the stations are operational, 520 permanent jobs will be available.
By 1 May 2025, land plots selected for the construction of micro-HPPs based on the project documentation will be transferred to the Ministry of Energy, which will then lease them to project initiators for a period of 20 years.
A special project group will be established to coordinate the implementation of programs in the field of small and micro-HPPs.
