New number plates are introduced in Uzbekistan in line with the resolution of Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan “On measures on introduction of new samples of state registration numbers of automobiles” from 27 June 2007.

Anvar Suleymanhodjaev, representative of Uzbek Interior Ministry, said that new number plates have flag of Uzbekistan and “UZ” mark, which indicates that vehicles are from Uzbekistan.

He said that Uzbekistan is part of international community and introduced international standards for number plates.

Another reason for introduction of new state plates is growing number of vehicles, which require more number plates.

He recalled that new number plates were introduced stage-by-stage and the process will end on 1 January 2013.

Anvar Suleymanhodjaev stated that majority of vehicle owners already received new numbers. He said that old number plates are not banned in the country, but they will expire from 1 January. By that time, all car owners should change their number plates.
