All set for new ACL unveiling
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The countdown for the new AFC Champions League launch has started in earnest with a brand new competition waiting to be unveiled to the continent’s football lovers on 12 December.

Come Friday, all roads will lead to the Toyota Mega Web where the current AFC Champions League logo will be replaced with a new look version, one designed with a broader and more dynamic audience in mind.

But the logo launch will be preceded by something all fans love - interaction with a raft of players who will also strut down the ramp in the latest lifestyle range.

“With the new, better and bigger AFC Champions League coming up next year, the new logo is in tune with the exciting times ahead for Asian football,” said Carlo Nohra, Director of AFC Event Management.

The logo launch will be followed by the actual draw for the group stage of the competition on 7 January 2009, in the UAE.

The best of the best in Asia will come out of the pots in the 32-team draw, with eight groups of four teams each.

The group stage will witness 96 double-round robin matches, which will be followed by the Round of 16.

An open draw for the quarter-final stage later, the tussle for the premier title in Asian club football and a grand prize of US$1.5 million will ensue.

But, for now, the journey starts in the capital of Japan and is destined to end there next year when the final takes place in the Land of the Rising Sun.
