All border control functions to be transferred to the Customs Committee

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Customs Committee of Uzbekistan will receive full powers for border control when exporting fruits, vegetables and food products. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The President noted that currently control over the export of fruits, vegetables and food products at the border is carried out by four departments: customs, quarantine, Sanotary and epidemiology service and veterinary authorities.

The head of state emphasized that despite the complete digitalization of all necessary certificates and permits, employees of regulatory authorities still carry out only formal checks of documents.

Therefore, it was decided to transfer all border control functions in the field of export of these goods to the Customs Committee.

It was noted that two years ago a new customs regime for processing was introduced. During this time, 254 enterprises exported products totaling US$1.1 billion.

Of this amount, 83 percent falls on entrepreneurs in Andijan, Bukhara, Syrdarya, Tashkent regions and the city of Tashkent. However, in Karakalpakstan, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya and Khorezm regions, exports under this regime did not even exceed US$10 million.

The leaders of these regions were tasked with ensuring exports of $500 million under the customs processing regime.

The customs regime for processing in the customs territory implies conditional exemption from customs duties and taxes for the purpose of processing goods and their export in the form of finished products.
