Alisher Kadyrov: Soviet ideology propaganda should be prohibited by Uzbek legislation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Alisher Kadyrov, the leader of the "Milliy Tiklanish" party and deputy speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, has expressed his position on the criminal prosecution of a man who advocated for the restoration of the Soviet Union.

It was previously reported that in Samarkand, a man was held accountable for publicly calling for the restoration of the Soviet Union. The court found him guilty under an article that punishes public calls for unconstitutional changes to the state structure, with a penalty of up to ten years in prison. The man was sentenced to three years of restricted freedom.

In his Telegram channel, Alisher Kadyrov supported the court’s decision, noting that the Uzbek people suffered greatly and were humiliated during the Soviet regime, and continue to heal the deep wounds of that period.

The politician emphasized that Soviet ideology, which rejected nations, values, and faith, was a calamity not only for the Uzbek people but for all humanity. In his view, remnants of this ideology continue to cause suffering.

Kadyrov also expressed the opinion that Uzbek legislation should prohibit the propaganda of Soviet ideology, era, and symbols. He added that this tragic period in the country’s history should be studied and discussed, but its propaganda or endorsement should be regarded not only as a crime against the constitutional order but also as a betrayal of the people and ancestors who fell victim to the bloody regime.
