While both teams showed attacking intent, there were precious few opportunities created by either side in an unspectacular Group B match.

With the other game in Doha between El Jaish of Qatar and Foolad Khouzestan of Iran also ending goalless, all four teams in Group B find themselves deadlocked with a point each and no goals scored or conceded after the first round of games.

Lebanese winger Mohamed Haidar offered an early threat for Al Fateh with a shot from the left that looped just over the crossbar. At the other end, Spanish midfielder Carles Coto was able to line up a shot from the edge of the Al Fateh box but his fierce drive was straight at goalkeeper Ali Al Mazyadi, the-afc.com reported.

Haidar was the home side’s brightest spark in attack and he found Hamdan Al Hamdan with a cross from the left in the 27th minute that the Al Fateh captain directed straight at goalkeeper Murotjon Zukhorov. Bunyodkor crafted a neat opening just three minutes into the second half when Coto chipped a cross from the right towards the far post where a late-arriving Jovlon Ibrokimov could only direct his header across the face of goal.

The closest that either side came to ending the stalemate was a 65th minute effort by Vokhid Shodiev who saw his downward header off a cross by Akmal Shoarakhmedov stopped by the feet of Al Mazyadi. The ball ricocheted off Shodiev towards the goalmouth but defender Badr Al Nakly was there to scramble it away.

The home side would get a great opportunity to take the points with 15 minutes remaining when Brazilian midfielder Elton (Élton José Xavier Gomes) laid the ball off on the edge of the box for Doris Fuakuputu who lined up a volley that forced Zukhorov into a diving stop.
