Pseudonym History

Several years ago a well-known art-critic visited one of the Akmal Nur’s personal exhibitions held in the “ART Heritage” Gallery in Delhi, India. Impressed by his pictures, he decided to meet the Uzbek artist personally. “Why is your surname is Nurridinov?”, the critic asked. “According to oriental rule your name should sound like Akmal Nuriddin or Akmal Nur. There are religion and light in your works that is why I think you should be Akmal Nur. Your creative work unites all these”. Thus, from1992 the name of Akmal Nur appeared on his pictures.

Symbolic

Any artist has his own certain symbolic in the works by which his hand is recognized. The Almal Nur’s pictures full of symbols, signs, metaphors. The symbols in his pictures come by intuition, not as such, but have a basis. Thus, in the East, the bread is a symbol of God’s grace and the sun, the apples are a forbidden fruit, and the fish is a symbol of purity. The Tree of Life is a pair of scales where our sins are put on, women are angels, dervishes are what an artist feels, something he comes back to constantly in his creative work. But how one can depict the Divine? A human is waiting the meeting with God all his life.

The images created by Akmal Nur are full of great love to the world around, a woman and God.

Love subject is a leading one in the artist’s oeuvre. The names of his pictures are symbolical - “The Love Garden”, “The Love Apple”, “The Love River” (1995г.), “The Love Island” (1998). Many of his pictures are devoted to relations between a man and woman. Their first dates, marriage rites, expecting a baby, birth of a new man, Uzbek traditions – all life is based on the law of nature, the artist is convinced.

He does not take portraits, he does not paint landscapes. “God has created the world such beautiful and perfect that trying to imitate it has no any sense” says he. Akmal Nur is trying to express his own perception of the world, to deliver to the audience his own philosophy of beauty, harmony and the world.

Background Information

Akmal Nur (Nuriddinov, Akmal Vakhabjanovich)born in 1959 in Namangan city, Uzbekistan.

He graduated from the Republican Art School named after P. Benkov in 1978, the Tashkent State Institute of Arts named after M. Uygur in 1984. He received training in the Creative Workshop at the USSR Academy of Arts in Tashkent in 1985—1989. From 1990 he is a member of the Creative Association of Artists of Uzbekistan.

In1997he was elected academician, active member of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

In 2003 he was conferred the title of People’s Artist of Uzbekistan.

From March 2012 he is Chairperson of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, chairperson of the Creative Association of Artists of Uzbekistan.

His works are exhibited in Uzbekistan, in Tashkent : the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, Exhibition Directorate of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, National Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Investbank of Uzbekistan; in the Samarkand State Historical and Architectural Reserve Museum named after A. Ikramov, Urgench Art Gallery; and abroad – in the Museum of Modern Art (Croatia), Davidson Gallery in Seattle (USA), “Art Heritage” Gallery and Lalit Kala Academi in Delhi (India), in collection of Credit Swiss Bank (Switzerland) as well as in private collections of Holland, Germany, Belgium, Australia, the USA, Israel, Canada, Morocco, India, Turkey, Switzerland etc..
