Air Products opens state-of-the-art food-grade CO₂ production facility in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Air Products, a global leader in industrial gases, has announced the launch of Uzbekistan’s first high-purity carbon dioxide (CO₂) production facility, meeting international standards. The facility has already begun supplying its products to customers.
The new plant utilizes CO₂ emitted during ammonia production at "Navoiazot," one of the region’s key chemical enterprises. With a production capacity of 120 tons per day, it is the largest and most technologically advanced facility of its kind in the country. Additionally, it is the first enterprise in Uzbekistan to produce food-grade CO₂ with a purity of 99.99%, fully complying with stringent international standards.
"The launch of the plant in Navoi is an important step both for Air Products and for Uzbekistan," emphasized Kirill Korotkov, Commercial Director of Air Products in Uzbekistan. "By processing by-product CO₂ into a valuable product, we are providing local businesses with high-quality raw materials. This project reflects our commitment to environmental initiatives and innovation in the industrial gases sector."
In the long term, the plant will reduce CO₂ emissions by nearly 1 million tons, aligning with Uzbekistan’s environmental strategy aimed at reducing dependence on natural gas.
The plant’s products will be in demand across various industries, including:
Food industry (freezing, modified atmosphere packaging – MAP)
Beverage production
Metalworking and welding
Agriculture
Operating 24/7 ensures stable CO₂ supplies, allowing businesses to optimize their production processes even during periods of high demand. Air Products will continue to support the sustainable development of Uzbekistan’s industry by offering cutting-edge gas solutions.
