Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the international summit "Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week" in the UAE, an agreement was signed between Uzbekistan and the UAE to implement investment projects for electricity generation using waste thermal recycling.
An agreement was reached to jointly implement the project with the involvement of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Energy, and the major Emirati company Tadweer Group.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with projects aimed at recycling household waste, producing electricity, and creating products from it, all of which are of high social importance.
As part of this project, a waste-to-energy plant is planned to be built in the Bukhara region on a 10-hectare site, with a total investment of US$200 million.
The plant will process up to 1,500 tons of waste per day. Construction will begin in 2025, and the plant is expected to be operational by 2027 to serve the needs of the Navoi region.
The project will enable the thermal recycling of 547,500 tons of waste annually, significantly reducing the environmental burden.
It is expected that the plant will produce 363 million kWh of electricity, reduce landfill volumes by 50%, and provide electricity to around 21,000 households. Additionally, 150 new jobs will be created, and 350 specialists will undergo qualification training each year.
