AGMK to complete construction of sulfuric acid shop in 2013
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Almalyk Mining and Metallurgy Combine (AGMK) open joint stock company is planning to complete construction of sulfuric acid shop at copper smelting plant in 2013, the company said in a statement.

The company said that existing old sulfuric acid shops were commissioned in 1967 and 1992 and this required to construct new shop.

The main aim of the project “Construction of sulfuric acid shop at copper smelting plant” is to launch new shop with the capacity of 500,000 tonnes of sulfuric acid a year. The project was included to the programme of modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of AGMK capacities.

The combine underlined that the project will be implemented on single contract scheme, which will allow utilize dioxide sulfur from gases of copper smelting facilities.

The company added that several reasons are behind of project implementation, including to develop further copper production complex and increase production of non-ferrous and precious metals, as well as increase production of sulfur acid to meet demands of combine itself and enterprises of Uzbekistan.

Launch of the shop will allow to create reserve of production capacities on production of sulfur acid, which will allow to process sulfur-containing gases on modern equipment. This will improve ecologic situation in the region.

AGMK said it accepted proposal of OUTOTEK GmbH to implement project after considering technical-commercial proposals of several foreign companies. In May 2011, the sides inked contract for designing, supply of equipment and rendering technical services at construction and launch of the object.

It said that OUTOTEK GmbH is completing basic project now, while Ukrhimproyekt (Ukraine) is developing working draft. The combine received sketches of the equipment from carbonaceous steel, which will be constructed by enterprises of Uzbekistan.

The company added that area for construction of shop was allocated at copper smelting plant and Olmalikmetallurgkurilish and Department of specialized repair works are constructing auxiliary premises.

AGMK underlined that the project implementation is under control of head of combine. It is expected that the combine will receive first tonnes of products from shop at the end of 2013.
