Aggregate capital of commercial banks reaches 4.61 trln. soums
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Central Bank of Uzbekistan hosted an expanded session of the Board dedicated to discussing development of the banking system in the first half of 2011.

In the result of adopted measures on further strengthening banking system and increasing its sustainability, strengthening investment activity of commercial banks, the aggregate capital of the Uzbek banks grew 36.58% year-on-year in January-June 2011 to 4.609 trillion soums.

The banks’ assets increased by 34.4% year-on-year in six months of 2011 and made up almost 26.84 trillion soums.

The volume of loans issued to real sector of economy grew by 38.2% to 15.41 trillion soums. The growth of investment loans made up 34% to 2.18 trillion soums.

In the reporting period, the bank rehabilitated production of 149 enterprises, which handed over to balance of commercial banks. The banks sold 78 of them to strategic investors for 770 billion soums. In six months of 2011, they produced goods for 300 billion soums and exported products for US$1062 million.

The volume of loans, issued to small and private businesses by commercial banks, grew 1.5 times year-on-year to 2.05 trillion soums. In the reporting period, the sector also used US$64 million of foreign capital. In the result, some 136,000 new jobs were created in the sector. The volume of microloans jumped 1.5 times to 399.6 billion soums.

The balance of deposits grew by 52.31% year-on-year and reached 18.28 trillion soums in the reporting period. The balance of population deposits rose from 39 trillion soums as of 1 July 2010 to 5.95 trillion soums as of 1 July 2011. The growth made up 52.7%.

In the result of adopted measures on strengthening cashless payment system, the commercial banks issued over 8 million banking payment cards. The banks also installed over 88,500 ATMs and POS-terminals.
