Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Presidential Decree “On measures to carry out the next stage of energy sector reform” was adopted.

According to the Decree, the Joint Stock Company “Uzenergosotish” will be formed, performing the function of centralized purchase and sale of electrical energy;

National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan will be determined as the operator of a unified backbone electricity transmission system, specialized in the transportation and transit of electrical energy.

The Agency for Development and Regulation of the Energy Market of the Republic of Uzbekistan (energy market regulator) will also be formed.

From 1 July 2024, the functions of centralized purchase and sale of electrical energy are carried out in full by Uzenergosotish, the functions of operating main electrical networks are carried out by National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan.

From 1 January 2025, the obligations of National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan under contracts for the export and import of electricity, as well as agreements on the purchase of electricity signed with private power plants, are completely transferred to Uzenergosotish.

Until 1 January 2025, the re-registration of electricity export and import agreements with Uzenergosotish, as well as electricity purchase agreements signed with private power plants, and National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan, will be ensured.

By 1 February 2024, a new methodology for setting electricity tariffs will be developed with the technical assistance of international financial institutions.

Until 1 May 2024, the tariffs of National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan for the transmission of electricity through main electrical networks, sales and purchase of electricity for Uzenergosotish, as well as a new procedure for the distribution of funds received for electricity will be approved.
