Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan holds talks with the Director-General of the WTO

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Ravshan Guliamov, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Economic Development, met with a delegation led by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The first visit of the Director-General of the WTO to Uzbekistan is taking place from 4 to 6 June. During this visit, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala participated in a high-level conference dedicated to the process of economic reforms and Uzbekistan’s membership in the WTO.

At the beginning of the meeting, the delegation highly appreciated the economic and fiscal reforms in Uzbekistan and their importance for accelerating the process of joining the WTO.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the progress of the negotiation process between the parties, the current economic situation in the country, ongoing systemic reforms and their results, as well as current issues and future tasks.

It was noted that the measures taken in the field of public finance management, access to the service market, agriculture, improving the competitive environment, and privatization positively affect the liberalization of foreign trade.

The parties also discussed issues of macroeconomic stability, human capital development, support for the green economy, creation of new jobs and poverty reduction, as well as the development of the service sector, including information technology, healthcare, education, tourism, and industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Director-General of the WTO noted Uzbekistan’s comprehensive support for membership in the organization.
