Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the fifty-third plenary meeting of the Senate, the law “On introducing additions and changes to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the rights of persons with disabilities” was discussed.

The country has carried out large-scale work to create the conditions necessary to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as the consistent implementation of generally recognized international norms and standards in the field of human rights and freedoms into national legislation.

It was noted that legislation on the rights of persons with disabilities is being improved in order to create additional conditions for persons with disabilities that provide them with the opportunity to exercise human rights and freedoms on an equal basis with other citizens

This Law amends the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, providing for the creation of additional conditions to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities to access justice, to vote and be elected, to participate in a referendum, as well as to receive education.

In addition, the Law “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, based on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, is supplemented by rules defining the forms of communication that can be used to communicate with persons with disabilities, as well as the grounds for adapting social infrastructure facilities for unhindered access to them by persons with disabilities .

According to the senators, this Law serves to ensure the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities by implementing generally recognized international norms and standards in the field of human rights and freedoms into national legislation.

At the end of the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
