About 60% of mass media outlets in Uzbekistan are non-governmental
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Currently, 1,292 mass media outlets are operating in Uzbekistan, of which 60% are non-governmental, deputy director-general of the Uzbek Agency for Print and Information (UzAPI) Ruzimat Safaev said at the press conference in Tashkent.

Ruzimat Safaev underlined that as of 1 October 2012, number of Internet mass media reached over 190.

Representative of the UzAPI said that the country developed and implements a complex of measures on supporting perspective projects and programmes, directed at strengthening economic independence and financial sustainability of mass media and news agencies, updating and developing their material technical base for 2012-2016.

He said that currently a draft law “On economic foundation of the mass media activity”, amendment and changes to existing legislation on mass media.

The draft law “On guarantees of the state support of mass media” is developed and discussed at various conferences and roundtables, he added.
