According to the information service of the Uzbek Agency for Automobile and River Transport, as of 1 January 2000, only 265 enterprises worked in automobile cargo and passenger transportation market.
Currently, share of non-state enterprises in automobile transportation services market makes up 100% in passenger transportation and over 90% in cargo transportation.
The agency said that some 282.9 million tonnes of cargo were transported via automobiles in 1990 and cargo turnover made up 5.9 billion tonne-km in 1990. In 2001, about 1.149 billion tonnes of cargo was transported with help of vehicles and cargo turnover made up 26.1 billion tonne-km in 2011. The figures rose 4 times and 4.4 times respectively.
About 6.245 billion passengers were transported with automobiles and passenger turnover made up 72.545 billion passenger-km in 2011, compared to 1990 the growth rate made up 2.4 times and 3.3 times.
In 2011, 98.47% of passengers, transported by all types of transport, and 89.9% of freights were transported with vehicles.
