A wind farm with a total capacity of 1,500 MW to be built in Karakalpakstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 December, a ceremony was held in Tashkent to sign a contract with ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia) for the construction of a wind farm with a total capacity of 1,500 MW in Karakalpakstan.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia Khalid al-Falih, Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power Muhammad Abunayan, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjaev and heads of organizations.

The wind farm is expected to be operational in 2026. The station will produce 5.2 billion kWh of electricity per year, which will save 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

The power plant will be built with a US$1.65 billion direct investment from ACWA Power. The start of construction of the power plant is scheduled for January 2024; commissioning - in December 2026
