A trilateral document was signed defining the next steps for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 18 May 2023, in the city of Xi’an, the People’s Republic of China, a trilateral document was signed between the State Committee for Development and Reforms of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan providing for the following steps under the project of construction of the railway "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan".

To date, for this project, the parties have completed the development of a feasibility study and conducted a tripartite joint assessment of the feasibility study for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, which will be further reviewed. The new document will define the next steps in the implementation of this project, such as the development of detailed design, research and definition of an investment and financing model.

The project contributes to the strengthening of interregional ties, will meet the goals of the Central Asian states to diversify transport routes and increase the region’s competitiveness as an international transport and transit hub. The total length of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will be about 454 km, of which 280 km will pass through the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The entire line has 18 stations, 81 large and medium bridges with a length of 26.1 km, 41 tunnels - 120.39 km, the total length of bridges and tunnels is 146.49 km, which is 47.0% of the entire length of the line.

According to preliminary forecasts, the reduction of the route from East Asia to the countries of the Middle East and Southern Europe will be about 900 km, and the time will be reduced by 7-8 days, while the volume of cargo transportation may reach 12-15 million tons per year.
