Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 December this year, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Badriddin Abidov, a regular meeting of the Negotiating Group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO was held.

During the event, the current state of execution of the instructions of the head of the Interdepartmental Commission for Work with the WTO, measures to accelerate the completion of bilateral negotiations with the Organization’s member countries were discussed, as well as the reports of the heads of thematic working groups were heard.

It was emphasized that at this stage, ministries and departments need to speed up the process of developing additional negotiating positions based on the updated proposals of the WTO member countries on access to the market for goods and services.

In addition, specific tasks were identified to promote the next rounds of bilateral negotiations with WTO member countries on access to the market for goods and services, as well as consultations with the Secretariat of the Organization for the timely implementation of previously reached agreements.

At the same time, at the meeting, a critical assessment was made of the activities of each specialist in the thematic working groups involved in the accession process, incl. in the preparation of systemic documents and negotiating positions, as well as their implementation.

Following the meeting, the thematic working groups were instructed to hold weekly workshops on the relevant areas of the agenda and develop proposals for the effective and high-quality organization of further negotiations in the process of the republic’s accession to the WTO.
