Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A prisoner committed suicide on 25 December in colony No. 11 in Navoi region. The deceased was convicted of premeditated murder and underwent psychiatric treatment twice.

A prisoner serving 14 years and 6 months in prison for premeditated murder hanged himself in his cell using a bedsheet as a noose, according to the Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman noted that the deceased was on the list of prisoners with a predisposition to mental disorders and was being treated in a psychiatric ward.

The prisoner also had problems communicating with other prisoners due to his unusual behavior.

The deceased’s family did not visit him and he only communicated with them a few times by telephone.

The Ombudsman also said that “due to the unusual behavior” of the deceased, other prisoners did not want to sit in the same cell with him, so from December 24 he was kept separately.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by a special prosecutor’s office, and the ombudsman is monitoring the progress of the investigation.
