A meeting was held in the Senate with the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 October 2023, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoev held a dialogue with the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Jarwan.

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace was created in Malta on 2 November 2017. The purpose of creating the Council is to promote a culture of peace and tolerance, combat discrimination, religious intolerance, nationalism, strengthen legal norms in order to strengthen the principles of tolerance to achieve peace. The Council works closely with the UN and other international organizations in this area.

During the conversation, the high growth rates of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates were especially emphasized, and it was noted that relations based on mutual trust between the leaders of our countries play a decisive role in this.

Al-Jarwan presented information about the international non-governmental organization he heads, which seeks to develop cooperation mainly with national parliaments in order to promote the ideas of tolerance and strengthening peace.

It was noted that the rich cultural and historical heritage and centuries-old traditions of tolerance, as well as the changes taking place in the republic in all areas, are important factor in strengthening the cooperation of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace with Uzbekistan.

– We are also well aware of the leading role of Uzbekistan currently in all processes in Central Asia. It was the new foreign policy of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev that made it possible to overcome the crisis of trust, and today common approaches for the region are being built around the ideas and initiatives of the leader of Uzbekistan, which is very consonant with the goals of our Organization, noted Al-Jarwan.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to expand cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace.
