A meeting of the transport ministers of the SCO member states takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 June, the eleventh Meeting of the Ministers of Transport of the SCO member states was held in a video conference format.

At the meeting, the ministers exchanged views on issues of further development of cooperation between transport authorities of the SCO member states, within the framework of decisions taken by the heads of state. They agreed to intensify cooperation in the existing mechanisms of the organization to develop transport dependence, expand the transport and transit potential of the SCO region, search for consolidated approaches to the processes of decarbonization of transport and implement adopted documents in the transport sector.

First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mamanbiy Omarov emphasized the need to complete the process of forming a unified transport network that will create a global continuous supply chain in the North-South and East-West directions for member countries of the organization and beyond. This will make it possible to more effectively use the capabilities of land and multimodal transport corridors.

Mamanbiy Omarov also noted the importance of developing the digitalization of the transport process and simplifying the crossing of cross-border points. He recalled that, at the initiative of Uzbekistan, an electronic permit system, e-permit, was introduced in Türkiye in 2021. In April 2024, the system was successfully launched in Kazakhstan, and active work is currently underway with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan to implement this system.

“In order to expand the geography of the use of electronic permits, we call on other SCO member states to join the e-permit system and gradually use the eCMR electronic letter on the transportation of goods,” said Mamanbiy Omarov.
