A meeting of energy ministers of the SCO member states took place in Astana

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 June 2024, the fourth Meeting of the Ministers of Energy of the SCO member states was held in Astana.

The event was attended by heads of ministries and departments responsible for energy cooperation, as well as representatives of Belarus and Türkiye.

The heads of delegations discussed the current state and prospects for the development of the global and regional energy agenda.

The main attention was paid to the development of the energy industry, attracting investments and financing projects in this area.

SCO Deputy Secretary General Sohail Khan emphasized the important role of the SCO in the global energy sector, noting that the organization unites the largest producers, transit countries and consumers of energy resources. He also noted that the SCO member states pay special attention to mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector, promotion of green technologies and sustainable economic development.

At the meeting, the draft Strategy for the Development of Energy Cooperation among the SCO Member States for the period until 2030 was approved. This document will be presented for approval at the upcoming meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State, which will take place on July 3-4, 2024 in Astana.

The Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, said that Uzbekistan plans to increase supplies of Russian gas through Kazakhstan. He noted that Russia is the largest investor in the energy sector of Uzbekistan, with joint projects worth US$22 billion. Lukoil and Gazprom companies produced more than 130 billion m³ of natural gas, mastering US$10.7 billion.
