A discussion of climate change projects was held with representatives of KICC

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 July, a meeting was held with the Korea Institute for the Study of Climate Change (KICC) to discuss international projects to mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gases and a training program for energy experts.

From the Korean side, the meeting was attended by KICC CEO Shin Yong Won, KICC Vice President and CEO of Farmergy FE LLC Kim Gap Chul, KICC Director Jang Se Hyun, Team Leader Hyun Ye Han and KICC Researcher Lee Geun Yong.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance was represented at the meeting by Deputy Head of Department Shokhzod Islamov, as well as specialists Davronbek Sultanov and Abdujalil Makhmudov.

At the beginning of the meeting, Shin Yong Won thanked the ministry for the warm welcome and briefly spoke about the progress of projects being implemented jointly with the Republic of Uzbekistan. In particular, one of these projects is Farmergy, a company specializing in the development of sustainable energy in Uzbekistan, by processing licorice waste into energy.

Located in Karakalpakstan, in the northwestern part of the country, the Farmergy plant is capable of producing 50 tons of pellets per day. In the future, other sources besides licorice root, such as sunflower, could be used to produce pellets.

The parties also discussed the possibilities of influencing economic, environmental and social sustainability in Uzbekistan through international projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. South Korea’s experience in this area can help reduce agricultural waste, increase the use of alternative technologies, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the creation of a Training Center for Energy Experts in Uzbekistan. In August of this year, a training program for energy experts will be organized in South Korea, within the framework of which there will be a tour of energy consumption facilities and familiarization with the Korean-Uzbek project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue negotiations for the development of mutually beneficial and promising cooperation.

The Korea Institute for the Study of Climate Change (KICC) is implementing climate change projects as an energy policy consultancy project in Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea.
