Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 September, the 66th annual session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) opened in Austria.

The event is attended by representatives of 175 IAEA member countries, including the Republic of Uzbekistan. The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan included representatives of the Uzatom Agency, the Academy of Sciences and the State Committee for Industrial Safety.

The General Conference is the main governing body of the agency. As a result of its annual sessions, decisions are made on all key issues of the IAEA activities. Within the framework of the General Conference, a general discussion is held, during which the heads of delegations make keynote speeches. In parallel with the General Conference, the IAEA regularly organizes a Scientific Forum on topics related to nuclear technology and science. It takes place at the venue of the General Conference, the Vienna International Center (VIC) in Vienna.

During the period of participation in the work of the 66th session of the IAEA General Conference, the Uzbek delegation plans to hold talks with the leadership of the IAEA, representatives of other countries and companies on cooperation in the field of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
