A delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 December, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva took part in the international conference in Astana following the results of the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia in 2023.

The conference was attended by representatives of the parliaments of the countries of Central Asia, the director of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, representatives of government bodies, international and non-governmental organizations, and international experts.

Tanzila Narbaeva noted the importance of active cooperation between the countries of the region within the framework of this platform and emphasized the role of this Dialogue in ensuring gender equality. She also noted the participation of women’s non-governmental organizations, which have intensified their work in this direction.

The conference discussed practical steps to develop regional cooperation, including preventing violence against women and ensuring the rule of law in the region. Priority areas of activity for the next year were also highlighted.

The Dialogue’s chairmanship term is one year, and the conference considered the issue of transferring the chairmanship to another state in 2024. The chairmanship was transferred to the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia is a platform for discussing important issues of development and strengthening cooperation between women members of parliaments in the region. It was created with the support of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the UN Development Program and UN Women, a United Nations agency, starting its work in December 2020. Uzbekistan chaired this Dialogue in 2021, and Turkmenistan in 2022.
