A criminal case has been opened on the fact of attack on journalists

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A correspondent and operator of the Zo’rTV channel were attacked in Tashkent yesterday when they arrived to shoot a story for a news release about the collapse of beams on an overpass leading to the capital’s international airport. Video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

It was reported that as a result of the incident, the operator of the TV channel needed medical assistance, which was confirmed by the Department of Security at the Transport and Tourism Facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.

According to the law enforcement agency, the incident occurred on 14 August at about 13:30, when the film crew of the Zo’rTV channel arrived at the site of the collapse of the bridge under construction to prepare a report.

The attacker has been identified. It turned out to be 36-year-old resident of Surkhandarya region N.E., who worked as a senior foreman of the 67th bridge-building detachment of the Kuprikkurilish Trust Unitary Enterprise. As a result of his actions, both cameraman Y.S., who had a closed nose fracture, and correspondent V.N., whose eyebrow was cut, were injured. In addition, the recording equipment was damaged.

On the fact of what happened, the department initiated a criminal case under part 1 of article 277 "Hooliganism" of the Criminal Code of the country. An investigation is currently underway.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan Temir Yollari on Monday evening also issued an official statement stating that an employee of the 67th Bridge Construction Detachment N.E. was dismissed in accordance with the Labor Code.
