Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A criminal case has been opened in Uzbekistan against a private airline that did not return pilgrims from Umra. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan.

As part of the criminal case, one person was taken into custody, the department notes.

The Transport Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating officials who committed serious offenses.

The case was initiated under Articles 168 (fraud) and 192−11 (abuse of powers by officials of a non-state commercial or other non-state organization) of the Criminal Code.

It was previously reported that the situation with pilgrims arose due to technical failures in organizing air travel, as well as the unprofessionalism of travel companies.

The Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan reported that due to technical problems, Panorama airline was unable to operate flights to return pilgrims to Uzbekistan.
