A citizen of Uzbekistan dies in a fire in an Almaty hostel

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Akim of Almaty Erbolat Dosayev, who visited the site of the fire in the hostel on the Adi Sharipova street confirmed that there were foreigners among those killed in the incident. Now it is known about the death of citizens of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, Zakon.kz reports.

He stated this after visiting the scene of the incident on the morning of 30 November.

“There is a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, confirmed, and a citizen of the Republic of Sakha (Russian Federation),” said Erbolat Dosayev, answering a question from journalists about foreigners killed in the fire.

The mayor of Almaty emphasized that according to current legal standards, placing guests on the ground floors is prohibited. Only kitchens, warehouses and other auxiliary premises can be equipped in basements. Law enforcement agencies are now looking into the reasons for this violation of the law.

Erbolat Dosayev emphasized that the akimat took all measures to support the injured and evacuated hostel guests. The district akimat provided them with temporary housing and organized meals.

Fire in a hostel on the Adi Sharipov street in Almaty occurred in the early morning of 30 November and claimed the lives of 13 people. Four more people sought medical help at the hospital, one woman was hospitalized with combustion poisoning. Students were not centrally accommodated in the burned hostel.

A criminal case has been opened and is being investigated under Art. 292 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
