25th Meeting of the CIS Law Enforcement and Customs Chiefs Committee Held in Almaty
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 25th meeting of the Committee of Heads of Law Enforcement and Customs Agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the event. The Uzbek delegation was led by Otabek Choriev, Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee.
It was noted that the committee plays a key role in countering modern threats and challenges within the CIS, carrying out tasks to combat smuggling and violations of customs legislation.
During the Almaty meeting, more than ten pressing issues were discussed. In particular, participants agreed on joint measures to counter the illegal international circulation of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and precursors, and approved actions planned for customs inspections and investigations.
The effectiveness of international operational activities, such as “controlled deliveries,” aimed at preventing customs violations and organized crime, was also examined.
Special attention was given to the liberalization of administrative and criminal liability for business entities that commit violations in the customs sphere.
