Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 June 2018, the first round of dialogue between representatives of public and private sectors of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan was held in Termez with the participation of representatives of ministries and departments, as well as business circles of the two countries.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, the Khokimiyat of Surkhandarya region, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the International Trade Center of the European Union. The Afghan side was led by the special representative of the President of Afghanistan on affairs of the Central Asian countries of the CIS Sh. Korgar.
The business delegation from Afghanistan was represented by the construction, food, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, mining, jewelry, agriculture, logistics and trade enterprises.
Within the framework of the dialogue panel sessions on trade and investment, as well as transit and transport issues were held. During the meetings between the ministries and departments and business circles of the two countries in the format "B2G" the prospects of further development of the Uzbek-Afghan trade and economic cooperation were discussed, including an exchange of views on the activation of partnership relations between the enterprises of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
As a promising area of bilateral cooperation, the sphere of trade, transportation and transit of exported goods to third countries, organization of joint productions for the processing of agricultural products, the production of ready-made clothes and building materials were noted.
The Afghan side expressed interest in developing cross-border cooperation with Uzbekistan, including in the area of trade, as well as simplifying visa procedures for Afghan businessmen. The Uzbek side underlined that the measures taken to strengthen friendly relations with neighboring countries, as well as the establishment of a visa-free regime and the simplification of the visa regime with a number of countries.
As a result of the event, a Memorandum on establishment of the Afghan-Uzbek Business Council was signed with the participation of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries.
The delegation visited a specialized exhibition of export-oriented goods of Uzbekistan organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in the territory of the logistics center Termez Cargo Center. In the open space of the center, passenger cars, trucks, as well as agricultural machinery of Uzbek manufacture were also exhibited.
The Afghan side expressed interest in organizing a similar permanent exhibition of Uzbek products on the territory of Termez Cargo Center, taking into account the location of this center closer to the border with Afghanistan.
During the exhibition, direct negotiations were organized between the enterprises of the two countries in the "B2B" format. The possibilities of exporting Uzbek products to the Afghan market are discussed.
The delegation was also acquainted with the activities of the enterprises of Surkhandarya region. In particular, during the visit to the enterprises of Gold Dried Fruits and Zharkurgan Meva-Sabzavot Export, the business circles of Afghanistan were introduced to modern production lines for the preparation of dried fruits and processing of agricultural products.
In order to demonstrate the tourist potential and familiarize the Afghan side with the historical and cultural heritage of the region, a visit was organized to the delegation of the memorial complexes "Hakim at-Termisiy" and "Sulton Saodat".
In the dynamics of trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, there is not only an intensification of bilateral trade, but also a significant expansion of its structure. As a result of 2017, the volume of trade increased by 15% to US$598.9 million, including exports - US$596.7 and imports of US$2.2 million. In 2017, The first direct flight between Tashkent and Kabul was made.
