General Motors, the world’s largest carmaker, announced today a joint venture with UzAvtosanoat to assemble and distribute Chevrolet cars in Uzbekistan, the central Asian republic and part of GM Europe region. The joint venture, which will be called GM Uzbekistan, will extend Chevrolet’s rapid expansion in Eastern Europe and Asia.

Uzbekistan state-owned utility operator Uzbekenergo plans to attract a total of US$300 million (212.5 million euro) for the realisation of four upgrade and infrastructure development projects, to be carried out in the period 2008 to 2010, state utility Uzbekenergo’s head Batyr Teshabaev on 5 October 2007.

Uzbekistan and Russia have failed to reach an agreement on cooperation in the enrichment of uranium at the international center in Angarsk, a government source told Interfax. "Uzbekistan has its own vision of the matter and it does not coincide (with Russia’s) on many issues," he said.
