Pilot zones of terrestrial digital TV broadcasting is being created in two cities of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI) said on its official website on 5 August.
Unitel LLC (subsidiary of the VimpelCom OJSC, rendering mobile communication services under the “Beeline” trademark in the territory of Uzbekistan) announces about the starting of the service “My melody” for its subscribers with credit and prepaid system of payment in Tashkent City, Tashkent, Syrdarya, Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Jizzakh, Namangan, Ferghana and Andizhan regions.
Ucell, one of the leading mobile operators in Uzbekistan, on 1 August 2008 launched its first GPRS/EDGE high-speed mobile data network services “Ucell Internet” and “Ucell WAP” in a test mode to sharpen its competitive edge.
Number of Internet users in Uzbekistan reached 2.21 million people, the website of the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI) said. The number of users increased by about 200,000 new users in January-June 2008.
Ucell says its serves over 1.5 million users and the growth connected with introduction of the new brand and strategy. The company said it attracted 500,000 new users in April-July.
Number of mobile users in Uzbekistan reached 9 million in the first decade of July 2008, the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information said.

Uzbekistan’s Uzbek Mobile has completed a US$6.6 million upgrade of its CDMA450 network, Uzmobile’s technical director Galina Gafurbekova told the Interfax news agency. The infrastructure, consisting of 70 base stations was supplied by China’s Huawei.
Uzbektelecom Mobile (Uzbek Mobile, Uzbektelecom’s branch), the country’s mobile phone operator, has completed the modernization of its CDMA-450 network at a cost of $6.6 million, Uzmobile’s technical director Galina Gafurbekova told the press on Tuesday.
