Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A round table was held at the International Institute of Central Asia (MICA) titled “Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan: New prospects for strategic partnership" dedicated to the results of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan, held on 26-27 January 2023.
MICA Director Vladimir Norov in his speech focused on the fact that the achieved high dynamics of mutually beneficial and constructive cooperation, which has acquired the character of a comprehensive strategic partnership, opens up new prospects for the further expansion of trade and economic relations between our countries.
“The governments of friendly countries have been tasked with bringing the trade turnover up to US$2 billion.
Norov noted that during the negotiations an agreement was reached to work out the issues of substituting imports from third countries with affordable products of our manufacturers, as well as the creation of shopping centers in the capitals of the two states.
At the same time, great emphasis was placed on the development of joint projects based on industrial cooperation.
The Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund has been launched, which is already financing real projects.
As part of the industrial cooperation, production of modern household appliances, building materials, and medical products has been established in Kyrgyzstan.
In addition, the automotive industry, the agro-industrial complex, the textile, manufacturing, mining industries, as well as transport, energy and medicine have been identified as promising areas for mutually beneficial cooperation.
At the same time, the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 with the participation of Kazakhstan, which was given a special place during the last visit, became the flagship in the energy sector in relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
This is the first mega project between the three countries in the recent history of Central Asia.
According to the director of MICA, the successful implementation of this project will create a solid foundation for sustainable development not only of our countries, but of the entire region in terms of economy and energy.
