Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The PPP program, in place since late 2018, is a key component of Uzbekistan’s broad reform process, which was launched under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan in 2017.
Through PPPs, Uzbekistan is aiming for an alternative mechanism to attract much-needed funding and leverage the expertise of the private sector to deliver improved public services. Consequently, these efforts are well recognized by the international community, as can be seen in the announcement of Uzbekistan as the winner of the Partnership Awards 2022.
The Partnerships Awards are the industry’s largest and most prestigious celebration of excellence in the industry. This year, it reflects the outstanding efforts made by organizations and individuals to do their best and impossible in response to the specific challenges caused by the pandemic.
The Partnerships Awards are important because they are judged by the toughest critics. The expert jury consists of more than 30 industry professionals representing both the public and private sectors. Judges are selected based on their knowledge, experience and integrity in the PPP market.
It is hosted by Partnerships Bulletin, which is part of the Haymarket Media Group. It provides information to public and private sector leaders who form partnerships to design, build, finance, operate and maintain public infrastructure.
Through its editorial coverage, database and market leading events, Partnerships Bulletin provides platforms to discover the projects, partners and policies that will shape the transport, social and utility infrastructure sectors.
The 2022 Partnership Awards took place on 19 May 2022 at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London, where not only the 2021 winners, but also the 2022 winners were announced. The evening brought together high-profile representatives from all areas of the PPP industry to celebrate outstanding partnerships and projects implemented by teams and organizations. It was an opportunity for the sector to really come together to network, celebrating the great work that has been done over the last couple of years.
The Partnership Awards 2022 was special for Uzbekistan, as for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, the Public-Private Partnership Development Agency (PPPDA) under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan won the Public Sector Promoter/Procurer of the Year nomination. This is a vivid example of the fact that the PPP program is the basis of the state development strategy.
Bangladesh has previously received the award in 2018, Melbourne in 2017 and the Philippines in 2016 and 2014.
In addition, two projects were shortlisted for "Best Utility Project": (a) Sherabad Solar 457 MW PPP Project by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and (b) Operation, Maintenance and modernization of the District Heating Network of the city of Tashkent, implemented by Veolia Energy Tashkent.
