Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has now completely stopped the export of natural gas to cover the seasonal maximum consumption within the country, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan told Interfax.
In 2022, Uzbekistan has no plans to supply natural gas to Russia. "At the moment, gas supplies to the Russian Federation are not being carried out, and there are no plans for 2022," the ministry said.
As reported, Uzbekistan supplied Gazprom with 3.8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2018. The country increased supplies to 4.9 billion cubic meters in 2019, and stopped exports in 2020. Moreover, in 2020, Gazprom began delivering Turkmen gas to Uzbekistan.
“The Central Asian countries are developing very rapidly now. First of all, this concerns Uzbekistan. And we are seeing a big increase in consumption in this country. Therefore, of course, to one degree or another, gas purchases are being reduced, because the state directs gas for its own needs, if we are talking about Uzbekistan, "the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, General Director of Gazprom Export Elena Burmistrova.
According to the BP statistical handbook, in 2020, natural gas production in Uzbekistan fell to 47.1 billion cubic meters from 57.3 billion cubic meters in 2019. At the same time, domestic consumption remained practically unchanged - 43 billion cubic meters after 44.4 billion cubic meters in 2019.
The main direction of gas supplies from Uzbekistan is China. According to the PRC customs, 3.277 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied in 2020, over 10 months of 2021, supplies increased by more than half - to 4.020 billion cubic meters.
